Birthday Boy: Brother Edition

Today is Scott's 28th birthday!! That's right hon, I said it. 28. (Scott thinks he's old now). Last year to celebrate, I interviewed Scott's parents about Scott as a boy. This year I decided that it would be great fun to let his brothers in on the birthday interview. So without further ado, here's what the other awesome Tessem boys had to say:

(Jeff, Scott, Troy, Atle in Norway - Jan 2010)

How would you describe Scott as a kid?

Jeff: Scott was adventurous and fearless. Scott new what he liked and would go after it. Scott new how to get out of school. He was funny, loving, and mischevious. He liked to make sandwiches and cookies, and make me eat them. He like to make his "specialty" at night and bring it to me to eat in bed.

Troy: As a kid Scott was always looking to have fun and by fun I mean by completely humiliating me in any given sport :P. He was super energetic and mischievous. Way good at sports….well way good at anything that meant winning and bragging rights. He had a way of being defiant. A.k.a. throwing bananas away cause he didn’t want to eat them, sneaking downstairs to play Nintendo instead of doing chores, etc

What is your favorite memory of Scott growing up?

Jeff: Basketball. Basketball was my favorite memory of Scott. Myself and my older friends, needing an extra man. Scott would be pulled in. Much smaller than the rest, and he would deftly hold his own. I can still remember being on the driveway with him, playing basketball

Troy: My favorite memory of Scott is the time he spent with me when we were younger kids. Even though there are five years between us he always made an effort to play with me. Whether it was playing with G.I. Joes, basketball, football, or Nintendo, Scott always included me. It meant a lot to be able to spend so much time with a brother that I looked up to so much.

What do you think people should know about Scott?

Jeff: Scott, as Mom would say, has a tender heart. He cares deeply about others. He cares much about his family. Also, as the song goes, He is a Hero. I don't know many people that have their own theme song, let alone two (That and the birthday song).

Troy: Well the kid can have a temper. There was more than one occasion that I feared for me life and was only saved by Mom or Dad intervening. But the thing you should know about Scott is that you won’t find a person who cares more and actually lives it. It’s not like he does anything big or showy to let you know. You can see it in how he treats his mom, his wife, and his daughter. Scott may cuss out a stranger for cutting him off:P But he is incredible at going out of his way to make sure his family knows that he cares.

What is the coolest thing about Scott?

Jeff: Scott will beat you at any game that you play. It can be on the computer, Nintendo, Basketball, Football, Curling, Underwater Scrabble (in Cantonese) and he will beat you. He has an amazing ability, desire, knack to win. That is cool.

Troy: He is fetching hilarious. Scott is usually the entertainment at any family gathering and it never gets old. He can make you laugh even when you are mad at him. So there really is no point at getting mad at him. This talent especially carried over into Family Home Evenings and encounters with Mom. She would be mad at him about something and then out of nowhere she was laughing. The best part was how hard she tried to not laugh. Good work Scott- thanks for helping us to be happy by making us laugh.

(Troy, Tiffany, Scott, Jeff in Norway - Jan 2010)

If you were ridiculously wealthy, what would you want to give Scott for his 28th birthday?

Jeff: A house next door. I would love to spend more time with my Brother. I miss him. Oh, and a blue chevette to throw all the bananas and under that he didn't want to take for lunch.

Troy: An Xbox - cause his broke. A new shoulder - cause his broke (I miss playing him in basketball now that I can take him:P)

Happy birthday Scott! 28's gonna be great!
(And you are NOT old!)
