Latin Energy Studio

Remember that original Zumba post from my first class 8 months ago? And then the follow up post from Day 2 that got even better? Well that Hispanic, Spanish-speaking Zumba class is a very different scene for me these days. I used to be the white girl hiding in the back, just hoping to lose a few pounds, not make an idiot of myself, and expand that comfort zone a little while having some fun. Nowadays, I'm there once or twice a day (often with Ellie in tow), chatting with my friends in a mixture of Spanglish and laughter, dancing it up and helping out with the teaching here and there. I think it's safe to say that my comfort zone has been well expanded.

But it's time for another expansion! Starting April 4th, I will be starting my own Zumba class at the studio! (Yeah, I'm freeeeaking out)! Our lovely leader and instructor, Paty, is expanding the studio and adding three new instructors and three more classes a day. We have a new name, a new website, a new FB page, and hopefully we'll be getting a shiny new studio in a few months. But I need your help!

I keep having the recurring (not reoccuring--you're welcome Scott) nightmare that I get there at 6:30 AM (I'll be teaching the early morning class) on my first day and no one comes. Or that only my friend Miguel shows up, which is less depressing but more awkward. I'm in a cold, dark studio dancing all alone at 6:30 in the morning.

When I wake up and start repeating positive affirmations to myself, my daydream is much more realistic: I show up at 6:20 on the first day, blast some sweet Latin rhythms, crank up the heater, flip on the lights, and get warmed up while I welcome the 3-6 brave souls who decided to give it a try. The class isn't perfect, but it's fun and we all get a great workout.

So in an effort to promote the new classes, I've set up a blog, a facebook page, arranged a photo shoot with all of the instructors, and helped put flyers together. (P.S. If you see a flyer around town with my face on it, I didn't design it, k? Not that it doesn't look good...it's just targeting a Hispanic target and looks like it...) Here's where I need your help! We need at least 25 people to "like" our Facebook page before I can get a username and the URL to go with it to put on flyers, the website, etc.

I'm not above begging... or bribery. So here's the deal. You go to our Facebook page, hit "like", and then if you're feeling really generous, tell a friend about it who's local and might be interested. When I get 25 likes on the page. I will give you an exclusive look at our Zumba photoshoot--including some of the "out takes", shall we say?
