Zumba Photoshoot

First of all, thank you guys so, so much!! We well exceeded the minimum 25 I needed on the first day and now we're nearing 60 fans! Thanks for all your help!

Now on to business...the photo shoot! Before we added two new instructors to the studio, Paty and I had some pictures taken for marketing. And by "had some pictures taken" I mean she brought her digital camera and some lady snapped a few shots before class at the studio. Not good, not good! They turned out so awful that when we had our new instructors, Amy and Cindy, join the group, it wasn't difficult to convince Paty we needed someone a little more professional behind the camera. In steps the wonderful Ashley Becar!

Ashley lives clear out in Eagle Mountain, but has made the drive clear out to Provo a few times to join us for Zumba. Since we're pretty much broke as a new business, she was generous enough to trade free classes for a photo session! If her style looks familiar to you, it's because she's taken pretty much all of our family photos for us since Ellie was born. She's not only way talented, but a total pleasure to work with.

We decided to shoot the pictures out in front of our studio/warehouse. I total dig the urban feel of it. It's so us--blasting music and shakin' our booties next to the automotive shops down by the cemetery. We started off with individual photos, then moved onto some cutesy group shots:

(Left to right: Cindy, Paty, your truly, Amy)

Then onto some "serious" shots, which I think I can safely say are NOT my strong suit:

I will never "smolder." There is no surer way to make me crack up then tell me not to smile! Thus ending my short-lived modeling career. Next we tried some jumping pictures:

Yeah, white girl can't jump. Or keep her hands out of the way. But this picture was too hilarious not to share. I LOVE Amy's face in this picture. And Paty consistently got like a foot higher than the rest of us.

I'm not entirely sure what we were thinking with this one...

I think we were trying to show off the Zumba logos on our shirts?

Then the photoshoot got really exciting! Ashley wanted us to do some dance poses, but they all looked too contrived, so she told us just to get really close together and dance. Apparently this is impossible without music, so Cindy pulled her van around and cranked up some music. A few shots into dancing around together, we noticed our audience. The studio is surrounded by Hispanic autobody shops. The music had drawn people out and we found ourselves dancing in front of a very large crowd of Hispanic men. Awesome. Because that's not awkward at all. So if it looks like we're laughing, we most definitely are:

And last of all, a little something to leave you with--a little booty poppin'.

Yeah, I thought you'd like that. So did our male Mexican friends.

THESE are treasures. Seriously. Treasures. Print them and put them in a scrapbook because Ellis is gonna go NUTS for them later.

Are you kidding? You totally rock a smolder. :)

I know I keep saying it, but I'm coming to class soon-ish. We're out of town for a week starting Wednesday, then the SIL and I have some Zumba ambition.

You forgot to mention how we totally crashed a baby shower! I die. Haha! This was truly one of my favorite photo shoots in the history of my short photography career. :) So freaking fun! Can't wait to shake it with you and the ladies in the not so distant future. Thank you for this experience. I got a few cat calls myself. ;)

Awesome post... it still makes me giggle when I think of that day that you stumbled into the Spanish Speaking Zumba class. Those are some great pics!

Go Jessica!
