A few weeks ago, Scott and I forgot about our 6th anniversary as we camped with the fam over Memorial Day weekend. Since Scott will be missing out on my birthday, we decided we'd better celebrate and spend sometime together. Scott's fabulous parents took Ellie all day on Saturday, and we headed to Salt Lake for some serious one-on-one time. It was legendary.
We started the morning out at Ruth's Diner up Emigration Canyon. We've heard about it from so many people, and it did not disappoint! While Scott enjoyed Ruth's Big Breakfast and I had my way with the Migas, we chillaxed to the sound of mellow acoustical guitar and vocals on the patio out in the canyon. Very good start to the day.
Next, we headed to University of Utah to get better acquainted with the place Scott so much of his time. Don't be hatin' cougars. We still love you too.
We found ourselves downtown at our staple parking spot--the Gateway, and wandered around the Chalk Art Festival. Very talented artists, but a little overkill on the Disney characters. Then we walked over to the Downtown Farmer's Market. It was way fun, but we got there too late in the day to enjoy everything. Earlier next time, for sure.
After so much walking around, (it was more than it sounds like, I promise), we decided we needed to rest our feet and we hit the theater to see Green Lantern. I'm kind of a geek for superhero movies. And I think we've only been to a theater twice since Ellie was born!
We headed over to Caputo's to pick up some dinner, and got totally side-tracked by the smell of Bruges. Ah man, it's all Belgian waffles and frites (Belgian fries). It smelled fantastic. So we ended up getting two Machine Gun Sandwiches instead. Picture this: fresh baguette, with local lamb sausages, stuffed with frites, and topped with andalouse sauce. Holy cow, it was awesome. And ridiculously huge.
Then we finally made it over to Caputo's and bought a few ridiculously expensive chocolates made by Blue Chocolatier. We went with the Peanut Butter and Strawberry Jam, Pistachio, Sage Honey, Chilli, Passion Fruit Caramel, and Orange Julius. Holy cow, I have never had chocolate like that. It was insane!
Finally, we headed over to the highlight of the day--the Summer Solstice Concert at Library Square. It was awesome. The openers, The Secret Sisters and Brandi Carlile, were every bit as awesome as the main performer, Ray Lamontagne. It was a gorgeous evening, packed full of excellent music.
It was so amazing to have a day with my handsome husband all to myself. With school and work and life, we don't ever get enough time together. It was a beautiful, beautiful day. It was, indeed, a super date (thanks Ted Mosby).

Sounds like a blast!! Did you like Green Lantern? Texas and I are planning on seeing it soon...
Waaaaay fun! Glad you [eventually] got to celebrate. Six years is definitely worthy of celebrating... I still remember 6 years ago, and Garrett announced that his fave mission companion was getting married to a Jessica: he used that as a ploy that it would be nice if he could marry a Jessica... :) Good thing things worked out in the end.
Happy belated birthday, Miss Ellie!
I LOVE ruth's diner.
the chocolates look Heavenly yum! I have always liked that about you two - what Foodies you both are. You both take your food so seriously - LOL - it's great! Sounds like it was a great anniversary! BTW, thanks for stopping by my blog. ;-)
